The LIFE programme was developed by firefighters in London to help reduce antisocial behaviour and improve community relations. It was quickly recognised that there were other directly measurable benefits to the Brigade and the communities they serve, as the LIFE programme actively works to instill a sense of social responsibility. The programme demonstrates the real need for self-discipline, provides a sense of personal opportunity and encourages feelings of self-worth. It creates a real understanding that the choices people make will shape their own destiny.
LIFE has been running in London successfully for 6 years. It has won awards and received significant recognition. It has now been implemented by the Fire & Rescue Services in many other areas throughout the UK and continues to gain momentum.
